How to Help Seattle Keep THEIR Sonics

Earlier today, I touched on the travesty taking place in Seattle. The Sonics are leaving, and nobody outside of Seattle is raising a peep. Just look at the outpouring of heartfelt emotion on message boards. We have to stop this.

One insightful commenter suggested that we post Micky Arison's information, because the owners will be voting on the relocation decision. I want to take this a step further.

I CALL ON EVERY NBA TEAM BLOG TO POST THE ADDRESS OF THEIR OWNERS. IN ADDITION, LETTERS SHOULD INCLUDE SOMETHING LIKE THIS:

"As a form of protest, we vow to boycott any game next season in which the Oklahoma City Sonics play, whether it be in our arena or watching it on television."

There's no way everyone will boycott the games, but even a strong showing would make the statement loud and clear. Post this EVERYWHERE!!! Unfortunately, the ability to save the Sonics rests not with the heartbroken fans of Seattle, but with the rest of us. WE NEED TO CONVINCE THE NBA THAT THE OKLAHOMA CITY MOVE WILL CAUSE MAJOR ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS IN OTHER NBA ARENAS!!!

Again, I call on everybody to post some version of the above on NBA blogs all over the country. Maybe we can get Bill Simmons in on this!

Send all Miami Heat letters to:
The HEAT Group
AmericanAirlines Arena
601 Biscayne Blvd.
Miami, FL 33132

Or Call: (786)777-1000

Thank you for seeing the reality of this situation. The NBA has gotten so used to sheering its sheep-like customers that it is attempting to downright skin the city of Seattle.

If no other city stands up against this behavior by David Stern and the all supporting owners, what city will be there when the next city's team is ripped away?

Sure Clay Bennett has every right to move his business. The issue is that it is clear that David Stern brokered the deal between Howard Schultz and Bennett all but ensuring the league's backing of the move.

If your owner demanded $200 million in subsidies, then secretly sold the team to out-of-town owners hell bent on moving the team with Stern's blessing, how would you feel about that?

To me, this issue goes well beyond a right-and-wrong scenario.

Even if Clay Bennett had every reason in the world to leave, there's something sacred about a city with so much basketball tradition. I can't believe people are just going to stand by and watch this happen. All I can say is that I'm so sorry for taking this long to wake up and realize I could do something.

And Big Chris...thanks soooooo much.

Contraction is a horrible thing. I loved the Miami Fusion, and haven't really watched many MLS games since. We support you Seattle!

BTW, I permanently link South Florida Fan on Sonicscentral.com.

I'd say you earned it, but it goes way beyond that!

Not that this will scare Micky, mind you, but you can tell him that you will boycott his cruise line, too, if he votes yes. (Carnival).

I for one am a Blazer fan but I do not want to see the Sonics leave Seattle! I appreciate what you are doing, I hope there will be enough support to keep the Sonics where they are. Good luck and I will keep doing my part to help out.

You have no idea how fantastic this makes the fans from Seattle feel to know that others around the country understand and are behind our efforts!

Thanks S. Florida!

Save Our Sonics!

I'm sure a boycott of the NBA is easy in Miami, since you have an NBDL team. ;-)

Just teasing! Thanks for the support!

Not as much an effort to save the Sonics, rather an effort to damn Oklahoma. Nice work...

People/states should know their place. We have a social structure in this country! Let them eat cake!

I found this blog in an OKC news paper forum; they are quoting you and your efforts to help.

So first let me say thanks for the support. I’m glad that the rest of the sports world is starting to get up in arms about this. If it can happen here, what’s to stop it from happing to other cities? Hell, ESPN is talking about the Viking moving to LA.

The people in OKC are commenting on how the whole sports community is dragging them and their city though the mud and I agree with them. It’s not the people’s fault that this is happening. Not only that, but they are torqued that Clay is now trying to bend over their legislature to get tax cuts or maybe he won’t move the team to OKC. Check out this article.

I can’t believe that Stern and the rest of the owners are going to want to keep dealing with this PR nightmare for much longer. That is the hope from the fans out here. Just keep mudding the waters and bleed them to death.

It just might be working too. Check out Clay’s latest move against our city.

Again, thanks to you and your readers for everything that you are doing.

This is an effort to undermine the economic viability of OKC! You should reconsider that statement, and boycott for another reason.

To offended Oklahomans:

The economic hardships aspect has nothing to do with you. What I'm saying is that we, as a populace, need to make a statement that business-like decisions no longer make good business sense.

I actually believe basketball could be very successful in Oklahoma City, and I'd be the first to advocate for expansion there.
