The Latest on Bouwmeester

His Arbitration hearing is scheduled for July.29.08
He has recently rejected a multi year contract extension from the Panthers worth a little over 5 million a year. It is apparent that the Panthers are low balling him since he is worth (to the team) about 6 million a year.
Lets all keep in mind that Bouwmeester is the player who this organization was planning on building around. This organization also was planning on building around Luongo but didn't want to pay up. Jokinen was also "untouchable" and would not be traded by the Panthers.
The Panthers 3rd overall pick is about to pack his bags and leave Florida like so many other great players have before him. Its tradition in Pantherland to always trade away their best talent just to stay under the playoff line come the end of the season. At least the Panthers are consistent losers.

You really think the Panthers are low balling? Bouwmeester has done nothing to prove that he deserves that kind of bread. If he's that unhappy, let him go. I would trade him to Ottawa if they're offering up Vermette and a 1st.

I'd agree with imber. Is he good? Absolutely. Is he a superstar who should be demanding 7 or 8 mil in a long term deal? I'm not so sure about that.

Definitely anonymous. He draws all these comparisons to star defenders in potential, but until he does it how has he earned anything? His production has gone DOWN pretty much every year so far.

Yea he only lead the league in ice time and is one of the fastest Dmen in the NHL. I guess he doesn't deserve a big pay day because eventually he will develop into the best Dman in the league.

I guess you just go ahead and trade him (3rd overall pick, was going to be our future) for vermette and a 1st lol. What a joke.

Build around Luongo, Build around Jokinen, Build around Bouwmeester, I guess this organization stays true to their word to build their teams around those 3 guys lol.

Jokinen and Luongo both demanded trades and said they weren't happy about playing here. They were pissy and pouty about playing in Florida and wanted out. And now it kinda sounds as though Jay is saying the same things. JM is trying to sign Bouw to a long-term deal. That's not the organization bailing on them...
