Arthur Rhodes at a Glance

Arthur Rhodes has had a storied career in Major League Baseball, stretching across 5 teams (Seattle twice) and including a few memorable incidents (remember when his earrings were so bright, they were distracting the hitters?)

Even at 38 years of age (almost 39), he can still throw some fireballs. In 22 innings of work, he compiled a 2.86 ERA, a 26-13 K/BB ratio, and a 2-1 record. He wasn't as strong last year, but relievers tend to have see-saw type seasons, especially late in the career.

Gaby Hernandez was a very steep price to pay for Rhodes, but this should help solidify the Marlins' pen as they make a stretch run.

I like this trade. It gives the Marlins another lefty option, giving Pinto some much needed rest between appearances, and it adds a veteran presence in the bullpen.

I think it's always tough to let go of a prospect, but in my humble opinion, the price was not that high.

I'm looking at stats that show Gaby Hernandez having a 2-8 record with a 7.24 ERA in AAA Albuqurque. In addition to those dismal stats, he has given up 14 homers in 64.2 innings in AAA. That is a bit high for my taste (about one every 4.5 innings, or two per full game).

Welcome Arthur! Now if we can only get Molina or Laird before 4pm...
